<p><b>Julie Page</b> is Co-Coordinator of both the California Preservation Program (CPP) and the Western States and Territories Preservation Assistance Service (WESTPAS). <p>Public Transportation: Getting to USC is very easy on public transportation.  You can take the <a title="Metro Expo LIne" href="http://www.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/806.pdf">Metro Expo Line</a>, which will leave you on the south side of campus on Exposition Boulevard.  If you take the Red Line to Union Station you can take advantage of a shuttle which runs regularly from Union Station to the University Park Campus. <p>Workshop instructor: James M. Reilly, Director, Image Permanence Institute<br />
This one-day program will explore new approaches to controlling environmental conditions in cultural institutions. A leading expert in the field, Reilly will present physically and financially feasible environmental control strategies to help institutions preserve collections materials for the long-term.</p>
<p>After a short introduction to essential concepts describing the relationships among temperature, relative humidity and collection preservation, attendees will learn how to read and interpret data from PEM2s* and other dataloggers; how to use eClimate Notebook**; and how to practically apply that knowledge – to optimize conditions to maximize service lives of collections, and to minimize energy consumption by heating, ventilating, and cooling (HVAC) systems while achieving satisfactory environmental conditions.</p>

<p>This one-day program will explore new approaches to controlling environmental conditions in cultural institutions. A leading expert in the field, Reilly will present physically and financially feasible environmental control strategies to help institutions preserve collections materials for the long-term.</p>
<p>After a short introduction to essential concepts describing the relationships among temperature, relative humidity and collection preservation, attendees will learn how to read and interpret data from PEM2s* and other dataloggers; how to use eClimate Notebook**; and how to practically apply that knowledge – to optimize conditions to maximize service lives of collections, and to minimize energy consumption by heating, ventilating, and cooling (HVAC) systems while achieving satisfactory environmental conditions.</p>

<p>Synopsis: One day workshop on proper exhibition methods for small-scale display of library materials.<br />
• Morning – Lecture of preservation issues related to exhibiting library materials. Lecture followed by tour around galleries at Huntington to discuss exhibition issues.<br />
• Afternoon – Hands-on portion of workshop building basic book cradles and display stands from board. Discussion and demonstration of proper frames and framing methods. Discussion of commercially available exhibition mounts.</p>
<p><span id="more-155"></span><br />
Marieka Kaye currently holds the position of Exhibits Conservator at The Huntington Library, where she has worked since 2005. Her time is spent assessing, treating, installing, and monitoring items from the Huntington’s library collections for exhibitions and loans. She received a Master’s degree in Art Conservation from Buffalo State College and a Master’s of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. Marieka began to work in the field of library conservation as a Preservation Assistant at Brandeis University in 1998. She went on to work as Library Preservation Assistant at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and Conservation Assistant for Exhibitions and Loans at the New-York Historical Society. She also volunteered her time in the book lab at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and completed advanced internships at the New York City Municipal Archives, Syracuse University, Etherington Conservation Services, and the University of California Los Angeles.</p>
<p>Jennifer Kim is the Conservator at the Margaret Herrick Library, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She received her Master of Arts degree in Art History and Advanced Certificate in Conservation from the Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. She has been working in the conservation field since 2001. Prior to her work at the Herrick Library, her conservation experience has included working on exhibitions for museums including the Autry National Center, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute.</p>
<p>Refreshments will be provided in the morning. Lunch can be purchased at the cafeteria.<br />
Participants will receive a kit with basic tools required for building mounts.</p>

This two day workshop will introduce participants to basic book repair for circulating or general collections.</p>
<p>Thursday, day one: Book nomenclature and common types of damage, hinge tightening, hinge repair, page replacement, and tipping-in loose pages.</p>
<p>Friday, day two: Introduction to adhesives, page mending, hinging-in loose pages, book repair selection and decision making, and how to set up a repair station.</p>
<p>Workshop cost: $150.00<br />
Workshop fee includes basic tools required for book repair.<br />
